General Hospi- tal, 27 visited in April, and 12 visited in the week of May 1. The General Hospital Commit- tee has been enlarged to 6 mem- bers, 4 carrying on the work in the regular Compensation Wards, and 2 to check on all other wards and pavillions. The St. Paul’s Committee reported that playing cards and cribbage boards had been given in the Compensation Wards at Easter time. Flowers for all Compensation Wards were distributed at Easter at the General Hospital. Next Social will be at the home of Sister Jacqueline Clarkson, 3206 East 2ist Avenue, on Wed- nesday, May 18 at 8 p.m. Phone DExter 4005-L. Information Please As a member of the General Hospital Committee I wish to make an appeal to all members, including our women members who are admitted to hospital, to contact, or have your nurse con- tact, the Union office at 175 East Broadway, telephone FA. 9530, and they will advise the Hospital Committee of your whereabouts. This is especially important for these not in the Compensation Wards, as it is almost impossible to get in touch with every ward and pavillion in the hospital, but if you contact the local union office, and give your name and ward letter or number, it will make it so much easier for our members to find and visit you regularly. With them they will bring cigarettes, and copies of The B.C. Lumber Worker and the International Woodworker. This applies to the General, St. Paul’s and St. Vincent’s Hospi- tals alike. We will be only too glad to visit our members if they will let us know where they are. Jean MacKenzie, Sawmill, Vancouver. ® Shingle Mill, Vancouver Sawmill, Lulu Island Sawmill, Vancouver. It would lead to no end of trouble. Poli- tics is dirty business, and you shouldn’t touch it with a ten-foot pole, especially when it comes to attacking the government of the day. But apparently “Scaler” thinks it’s quite all right for the bosses to mix in polities. It is quite all right to attack members of the opposition party, especially to pick on one who time and time again has presented labor’s point of view in the legislature. This MLA evidently had guts enough to protest the 15 per cent- in- crease in passenger fares when the Government tax was re- moved. Of course, this was all wrong. In some mysterious way, “Scaler” has had access to the shipping companies’ books and has found that during the last few. years the passenger boats plying up and down our coast have been losing money. He doesn’t give us one iota of proof. We've got to accept his say-so, just as we are supposed to accept Bob Morri- son’s words about the small lum- ber operators losing money and yet continuing to operate year after year. LOGGING BOOTS It is well also to ask yourself the question, ‘‘who pays _the “Scaler” for his write-up in For- est and Mill. It might be well too, to remember Murray Cotteril’s words: “The bosses have been using political action a long time. It is now time for the workers to use political counteraction.” SAN FRANCISCO — TAILORS — LOANS MONEY ON Suits, Overcoats, ete. Loggers Boots, Sleeping Bags, Suitcases, Radios, Watches and Rings.
