A federal program for the con- stituency, which Mr. Morgan will be asked to endorse, includes the following points: © Efficient use of timber re- sources to eliminate waste. © Reopening of Royston and Bates sawmills to provide farmers and others with lumber at reason- able prices. © Utilization of coal and iron ore deposits on Vancouver Island for establishment of a steel mill in the province. © Opening of Sable River coal deposits and expansion of other coal fields to provide adequate coal supplies. @ Development of Elk River Falls to provide cheap hydro-elec- tric facilities for industrial and domestic use. (Present price to consumers in northern areas of Vancouver Island is approximately 10 cents a kilowatt hour.) © Promotion of producer and consumer cooperatives among farmers, fishermen and other semi- agricultural groups as a means of securing fair prices to producers and consumers. © Resolutions were passed con- demning the new labor code pro- posed by the King government and the recent order-in-council penal- izing coal miners should they take strike action to enforce decent wages and working conditions.
