COURTENAY, B.C.—Loggers, miners and fishermen in the Federal riding of Comox-Alberni, one of the major centers in the province for these industries, will have a labor standard- bearer in the next federal election following the nomination Sunday of Nigel Morgan, International Board Member of the International Woodworkers of America. The IWA leader was the unani-@ mous choice of the 30-odd delegates in attendance at a conference rep- resenting all trade union locals in the area ,including IWA Local 1-363 of Courtenay and Local 1-85 of Port Alberni; United Mine Workers of America, Cumberland Local; United ployed as head faller, was struck Fishermen's Federal Union; United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners, Courtenay Local; Hotel and Restaurant Workers’ Union, Port Alberni Local; and IWA Ladies’ Auxiliaries from Port Alberni, Courtenay and Campbell River. -~Announcing his acceptance of the nomination, Morgan stated: “1 feel greatly honored at-being chosen as Labor candidate in the Comox-Alberni riding. 1 pledge my utmost to represent the work- ing people of this riding, and if elected will devote my energies to voicing their needs in the Federal House. “| shall continue to devote my energies to developing an all-out war program and genuine govern- ment-labor-management coopera- tion. In obtaining this the adop- tion of national labor legislation, including a Canadian ‘Wagner Act? embodying sound collective bargaining legislation, will play an important part.
