WILLIAMS & MACKIE’S CAMP REPORTED FAIR Williams & Mackie, Alert Bay, B.C. Editor, B.C. Lumber Worker: This is a new outfit, just starting up and is rather small just now, with only one set of fallers on the job yet, and they get $6.00 per day. This company has another small out- fit down’ the coast which is just about finished; then we will all be together with the crew moving up from there. Living conditions here are fair, and the grub not too bad, but could stand some improvement. Moore’s Camp, Winter Harbor. — A meeting was held in camp when the or- ganizers on board the “Laur Wayne” called. Camp conditions are fair, grub good, and wages average. Last year the men were on the move, coming and going all the time, but this year the crew is staying, and the organizers are of the opinion that this improvement is caused by a change being made in the camp boss. Jim Fishback is running the camp and getting along OK with the crew. Queen’s Reach Timber Co. Jervis In- let. — This company was convicted by Stipendiary Magistrate H. Willlamson on June 5, for failing to provide fire-fight- ing equipment at logging operations, and fined $25 and costs under a charge laid by the Forestry Act. We understand that since that time, this camp has been taken over by Jim Zoney and it is ex- pected that before long it will be an Ad outfit, and a good place to work. Malahat Log, Port Renfrew. — Latest report is that this camp is closing on June 26 for one week. Queen Charlotte Islands Camps.—Prac- tically all the fallers from the camps in this area have been given a three weeks’ vacation, most of them having arrived in town over a week ago, and the remaining ones, with the exception of one or two sets at Kelley's, are expected on the next boat. About all of the big camps, and many of the smaller ones, are reported to be closing down for a week, over the First of July, and some of the crews are ex- pecting to return to camp around the 3rd. Nitinat Lake Log, Clo-oose. — About 25 members of the crew are reported head- ing for Vancouver now for a short holi- day and to take in the Loggers’ Ball, in the Embassy Ballroom on July 4th.
