The onl: thing that encouraged me was the fact that the old pros hadn’t Played much for 25 years, and so I was able to miss serves with the best of them. We have become so enthused that we already have the spot for our tennis court picked out at Chimney Lake. No getting served in a few minutes like we do in Williams Lake. There is no doubting the sad fact that B.C. roads are not a patch on those of Albert and Saskatchewan. Most of them are broad ribbons of pavement with a paved “shoulder” making them literally four janes wide. There are frequent wayside tables and picnic areas with restroom facilities set aside for the travelling public, “as well as the regular camping sites. In the parks, natural wood is used with imagination to create signs pointing to the mountains and other scenic highlights. It is a rude shock to cross into B.C. onto a _ patched bumpy two-lane road with few facilities for tourists. And it’s anybody’s guess as to what mountain-peak towers above - = ss FOLLOWING CEREMONY Happy couple seen here leaving St. Andrew's United The bride is the former Phyllis Bambrick and the couple will be Church are Mr. and Mrs. G. Some meeting and named Elton Madison secretary of the 20 operators attended the Elliott president and Tom new group, which will be known as Williams Lake and District Truckers’ Association. The meeting decided on a $5 membership fee with a rate to be computed later on operators with additional vehicles. Mem- bership is to be open to mill opetators as well as truckers. In view of inequities in the new provincial transport regu- lations, the meeting approved a six-point brief to be drafted and forwarded to Victoria im- mediately. Now limitéd toa maxi- mum of 26,000 pounds, truck- ers feel that this should be in- creased by a ton or more over the winter? period. 2—Tandem: trucks pulling pup trailers. Tandems have a maximum gross limit of 44,000 pounds, if load can be distribu- ted over the-axles. Hauling a pup trailer the combined gross is around 72,000, but in winter months the tratters aren’t feas- ible and the 44,000 “limit is applicable. However, trucke: can’t distribute long lumber in such a way as to avoid over- loading on one axle. Brief asks that 44,000 gross be maintained even if the load is overweight on one of the two axles. 8—Change licence piry date. Brief asks for an exten- sion of current licence year to March 31 and that this date be maintained as the end of the licence year. Truckers point out that in this part of the country they must buy new licences in February and then wait until the end of break-up before they can get full use of their vehicles. 4—Trailer licences. But on the other hand, to) provinées offers little challenge. | You can simply scoop.up some) dirt, pile it in a straight line, throw some paving on top and “pres you have a highway with plenty of money left over for frills, no doubt. In British Columbia with its hills, mount- ains, rivers, lakes, gorges and trees, the long straight stretch is a rarity, not the common- place. It makes a difference.
