DEAN OFFICIATES Anglican church full for induction of vicar St. Peter’s Anglican Church filled to overflowing last W ednesday night when people came from as far as Horsefly and Miocene to see Rev. E. H. Wal lace instituted and inducted into ‘the Position of Vicar of Williams Lake Parish. The ceremony proceded under the Lord Bishop of Cariboo, the Rt. Rev. Ralph S. Dean. The church was graced with the pre- sence of Basil A. Resker, Arch- deacon of Kootenay, who was the first vicar of the Parish here. Mr. Resker addressed the clergy and the parish in a speech on the duties of a priest and his responsibilities to the church. The Archdeacon said that at the time he was vicar here the parish was known as Williams Lake and Chileotin and it was the largest in Canada and it still is today. During the ceremony Rev. E.H. Wallace was escorted about the chureh to different areas from which prayer, the reading of the scripture and lessons are given. At the end of the ceremonies the new vicar went before the altar and made the final part of his pledge to his duties. RECEPTION After institution and induction services were over an informal reception was held in the lower Part of the chureh hall. So many people turned out for the occasion that there were not enough chairs to go around: At this time Rev. Wallace told how he met Lord Bishop Dean and how he came to be in the Cariboo. Rev. Wallace said that he had taught school in Ontario with a fellow who had taught at Soda Creek and from this man he heard all about the Cariboo and wanted to hear no more. It happened, however, that Lord visiting in Bishop Dean was Fergus, Ontario and a banquet showed slides and gave an ad- dress on this part of the country. Rev. Wallace attended this banquet and R.S. Dean said that at the end Wallace approached him and said, “When can I come?” Then Rev. Wallace said he phoned his wife and asked “How much do you love me?” His wife replied, “Where are we going?” This was two years ago. Since that time the priest and his family have been eagerly waiting for an opportunity to come to Williams Lake. QUESNEL—Dawson Wade Ltd. has ben awarded the con- tract for hot-mix paving of the nine-mile stretch of highway north of here. Payemet will be laid from the junction of the old Prince George’ highway along to Cottonwood River bridge. Two of these openings are for Williams Lake High School and-one at Parkside Blementary School. There is about one week left before school_—_goes back and it is hoped that all Schools will be staffed by this ime. It has been reported that there are 17 children ready for school at Chileo Ranch and it is probable that a classroom Will be opened there this term. John Wade at Chileo Ranch offered to furnish the accommo- dation for such a class. A special class for slow learners will be started at Parkside Elementary School in Williams Lake this term.
