Squadron’s top cadets receive trophies at annual inspection Flight Sergeant John Zirnhelt and Sergeant Norman Milne, two outstanding cadets in the 610 Cariboo Air Cadet Squadron, received trophies at the squadron’s fourth annual inspection held last Sunday in War Memorial Arena. John Zirnhelt won the Black- well Mémorial Trophy for the best cadet of the year. Norman Milne received the Reidemann Trophy for the most proficient rank in the flight. Three bands and a fine com- plement of parents plus a good show of ceremonial drill put on by the cadets made the annual inspection a great success. The Quesnel Legion Pipe Band added color to the event, along with the Kiwanis drum and bugle band and the Mission ‘trumpet band. The units assembled along- side the cadets in the arena and drummed out the cadence while the squadron marched past the Stand where the salute was After the ceremonies the boys marched down the streets to the Stampede Grounds where a fine display of horsemanship Was put on by the Trail Riders. A banquet was held in the even- ing at St. Joseph’s Mission. The inspecting officer was Wing Commander F. W. Hil- lock, C.D., senior air staff officer of Five Air Division, Van- couver. Other members of the inspecting party and visiting guests were F.L. H. E. Carling, I. B. Quinn, B. O. Mayne, W.C. V. R. Clerihue, Art Charleton and F. Anfield. Officers and instructors of the Cariboo Squadron are F.L. Jim Duthie, Commanding Officer; FL. C. S. Rhodes, adjutant; F.L. W. O'Donovan, supply Officer; Dick Brookbank, drill instructor. Father J. H. Mor- tis is chairman of the local sponsoring committee. About July 5, 20 cadets, five whites and 15 Indians, will go to Sea Island Air Force Base for two weeks of summer camp. F.L. Duthie will be at Sea Island for two months as part of the summer camp staff. Jim Duthie mentioned that a new phase is being developed in the training field to allow the instruction of jet aircraft and rocket missile operations.
