Annual Meeting of the HOSPITAL SOCIETY BANQUET ROOM, ELKS HALL Friday, February 27, at 8 p.m. Report on the new hospital construction program ————_— Narrow escape. in bush mishap Clift Renton, 50-year-old limber with J. M. Brown Log- ging of Lac La Hache, had a miraculous escape Tuesday last week when a tree fell on him while at work. It was five o'clock in the afternoon and time to quit as he walked along a fallen tree, limbing it as he went. Renton thought that his partner had gone off duty and it seems likely that the latter thought Renton too had left the scene. However, his partner decided to fall one last tree and did not see Renton from where he stood. The tree struck the limber from behind, felled him to the ground and his life was saved by the fact that the tree was held clear as it fell across the one on which he had been standing. Catman Don Roxberry and bucker Dick Flynn were close by and rushed Renton to War Memorial Hospital. He frac- tured a bone in his mouth and suffered contusions to shoulder and face. He is now feeling very comfortable. cabaret-style dance at the Following the dinner pro- gram, the new officers of the club were installed by Vern Llewellyn, of Tenasket, Wash- ington, Lieutenant-Governor of Kiwanis International. The purpose of the weel is to encourage persons with sight to give some thought to those who have no sight, to learn of their achievements, and how to help them in everyday living. The Canadian Council of the Blind, which is the constituted voice of blind Canadians, gives these suggestions: When talking to a blind per- son be natural. He or she is interested in the same things that interest you. Don’t try to avoid the word “see” in conversation, blind people see with their minds. Always lead or guide a person using a white cane across the streets, making sure he is going in the right direction before you leave him.
