Have you ever wondered who starts wars? How they actually begin? How the desire. to go to war is born into the human mind? This summer I was sweltering at the Dearboron Station in Chicago wa temperature was 9$ degrees and the humidity . . . wow! I was standing at the canteen rail sipping a short beer. Along- side were two American G. The conversation ran like th G.I. No. 1: “Ya see the papers where them so and so Russians is getting ready for trouble again? G.I. No. 2: “Sure did, chum.” G.I. No. 1: ‘Well, if you ast me it's high time we ‘went over there and blasted them to pieces with our atom bomb, before they gets to us first.” G.I. No. 2: “Thass 0.k. by me anytime.” G.I. No. 1: “Boy, I'd sure love to have one of them Ruskies dead in my sights right now.” What makes people tick? What makes people want to blow the dickens out of fellow men? It’s beyond me, and I am sure it is beyond the ken of THE OLD SWEAT BY DOUG SMITH many an citizen. Who engineers all this race hatred? These two berighted and uniformed G.I.’s were just plain shooting off their mouth. But obviously, they were aping some bigger man’s thoughis. How then can the little man on the street avert war? I wish I knew the answer. All I can suggest is that the next ime war looms, all countries concerned take the heads of their governments, issue each member with a rifle,-one tin of bully beef, a canteen of water, put them all together in a swampy compound, and tell them to fight it out. I think that we would have the quickest armistice on record. 100 Mile House BOBBY LAIDLAW, who was taken to Royal Inland Hospital, Kamloops, by Alex Morrison two weeks ago for medical attention. has returned to his home at Canim Lake Ranch. honest-to-goodness Make Your Move with Ease We'll move you any place, anywhere, any time.
