Page 2 THE TRIBUNE, WILLIAMS LAKE, B.c. Theirs is a Great Challenge Seldom, if ever, has a party been given such an overwhelming mandate on a national level as the Progressive-Conservatives achieved Monday. We hope that history will not prove the majority they will hold in succeeding sessions of parliament is too great for the country’s good. Such a majority places an extra responsibility on the government. They not only fashion the country’s laws and policies, but they must also act as their own opposition in criticizing the format of such legislation before it is pushed through to become law. Not only has the ,opposition been reduced in numbers, but it has lost in quality, too. Regardless of their party affiliations, thinking people will regret the fact that strong voices like Coldwell, Low and Knowles have been silenced in the House of Commons. The Progressive-Conservatives face a far greater challenge in their victory this week than they did a year ago. The Hospital Site Suggestion by directors of War_Memorial Hospi- tal that there are better sites in Williams Lake for the proposed new structure, is one with which we are heartily in accord. ir years ago, this question was raised but didn’t pa aatich solid backing, mainly because of the fact that at that time there was no sewer system in town. Over the years, those in charge of the hospi- tal found the problem an annual headache. A fair section of the lower end of the golf course was dug up to provide septic tanks and rock pits with no notice- sable success. At the time the move was mooted, directors had solved the problem with the installation of an effluent drain right through town, and the thoughi of starting the septic tank burrowing all over again was enough to squelch any proposal of a new site. Today, this problem is no longer with.us, and there are doubtless a number of sites available that could be hooked into the town sewer system with relatively little expense. Some The main argument of proponents of the move will be the irrefutable fact that the present location is too close to the arterial highway feeding the town’s business section. Since plans for the new structure show it will be even closer to the highway than the present building, this argument gains weight. The directors will want to test the public’s’ re- action to any proposed move, and they should get it now when the suggestion is in its formative stages. We add our voice as being in;favor. f The Quality of Faith Of all the teachings of Christianity, that of the Resurrection, the promise of life after death fulfilled, is the one that implants itself most firmly in our hearts with its surety of design. This beautiful Easter story is one of the founda- tions of our Christian belief, and today, in an age of bewildering compiexities of human behaviour and scientific achievement, we need this faith as much as any generation in the past has required its strength. We are caught in a race of orbiting pieces of metal and the perfection of anihilation, and we are becoming increasingly aware that there may be only a handful of human beings left to applaud the winners. It is small] wonder that a trend is being noted in some prominent universities towards a revival in re- ligion on the ¢ampus. Students are turning back to search for the faith that strengthened Christian society through past centuries. And their search shall not be in vain. They will find the true strength of Christianity is faith—faith in the teachings of Christ and the story of His life that ends, not with his death, but with the thundering climax of the Resurrection. From this faith stems the moral and physical strength of persons imbued with its quality. WE BUY OLD BATTERIES C & S TIRE SERVICE LTD.
