Possibility Of Gold Price Rise Suggested Possibility of an increase in the price of gold was suggested in Toronto last week by V. C. Wansbrough, vice-president and managing director of the Canadian Metal Mining Associa- tion, at the organization's an- nual meeting. Similar suggestions have been heard from time to time in the past and have always proved tol be inaccurate. Mr. Wansbrough | however, contended that cireum- stances are developing that might lead to such a move, The gold price is rigidly con- trolled by the International Monetary Fund. But is was pointed out if there is a marked decline in business and economic activity and foreign governments decide that conditions are such that their gold should be moved back to their own countries, the Monetary Fund might consider a hike in price. Mr. Wansbrough felt there were indications that these very circumstances were developing, and if such a trend continues. the gold price might well go up. There was no suggestion mad+ as to when such a drastic step might be adviseable. Gold producers in have endeavoured from time to time to achieve some incre price, never with any success These efforts have _ beer seriously pressed since the gold subsidy was placed in effect. Any increase in price tha might be made, would certain) have the effect of reducing thr subsidy payments to minin: operations, though to whe extent would likely depend or Canad? eee | Prices Effective: TOM.BOY 5 ~ Saturday, March 13, 14, 15 Store DAD'S mc” Margarine se, 2 Oe Cookies mice” Cake Mixes Wate covet icons 2 mw FIC ee aes 29¢ ec Apple Sauce x 2 Ble - 3c Price Niblet Corn 14-02, THD os ssssssseeesscsereene 2 for dic VEL LIQUID p=<""Whole Beets = __ 2 «2 ae Deter gent mcr” F¥Otcross Buns .... io ee rice” Salmon Arm CHEDDAR Cheese 5 2c mc Sweet Pickles x2 4 OG shail POLY PAK Orange Label KLEENEX KOTEX TIDE 87c a 99c ad for 85c 2 er ~ 4SIc 2 for 35¢ 26c TEA BAGS .00..
