Tax Return Limit Reduced The present six-year limit in which the revenue department can reopen old tax returns and will be reduced to four years next Jan. 1, Finance Minister Harris announced in the Coimons. He introduced an amendment lo this effect as the Commons gave clause-hy-clause study to a bill amending various sections of the income tax acts. The amendment was speedily approy- ed by the opposition. Donald Fleming (PC-Toronto- Eglinton) said credit for the change should go to Davie Ful- ton (PC-Kamloops) who intro- duced a private bill last April to cut by half the six-year limit. Mr. Harris said with a smile he had been thinking of the change for a year. Mr. Fulton, not in the cham- ber at the time, had said earlier that honest taxpayers should be relieved of the duty of producing eek ene years-old tax records and ex- plaining them.
