Christie Sr., attended the 9th annual convention of the Kamloops Diocesan Council of the Catholic Women’s League of Canada, held last Thursday, in St. James Church Hall, Mrs. Moran, Vernon president, welcomed the dele- gates. All subdivisions except the newest, Little Fort and Ash- croft, were represented, and gave excellent ‘reports on their year’s work. President Mrs. Mil- ler, wished more Indian lad: would take part in League work and attend the conventions. Rev. Fr. Murtagh of St. Anne’s, Quesnel, expressed the thanks of the clergy stating how much these reports assist the parish priests in their work. He thanked the ladies for their as- sistance in parish needs and urged them to encourage voca- tions. At the luncheon meeting ai Allison Hotel the speaker was Rey. Fr. O’Rielly of Lumby who spoke on the growth of C.W.L which he feels is not anywhere near its peak. Calling the League the right hand of the priest he told the gathering ‘‘Young peo- ple look to you for leadership — to reach all children, all mothers must belong to the League. The younger ladies can do the manu- al work and let the older ladies attend to the spiritual work.’ He said that church work was an honor and urged more wom- en to teach catachism where the good Sisters are not available. If prayer is not taught to little ones it makes it very hard for the priest. DOUBLE SCHOLARSHIP It was decided to accept the resolution doubling the national 5 | Scholarship from $500 to $1000 annually for-a period of 2 years. The recipient must give 2 years of service after graduation. This is for a uniyersity graduate in- terested in further training in social work. It will now go to the provincial convention. It was also decided to con- tinue for another year at least, the 30c per*capita fee to help build up the travelling expense fund. His Excellency Bishop War- rington then. addressed the ga- thering and posed the question “How can you: make God better known if you don't know God yourself?” He stressed the use and values. of ‘Information Groups” so that adult catholics may get qui¢k information on religious questions.
