Designer-contractor was Doug- las French of Vernon. The de- sign shows the new ‘trend to- wards long, low, spacious shop- ping centres where buying be- comes a pleasant interlude in cheerful surroundings. It was part of the designer's plan that customers should feel a congenial, informal atmo- sphere on entering the Super Mart and the arrangement of gondolas and merchandise con- tributes to this end, aided by the fluorescent lighting and rest- ful color scheme. [Extra-wide aisle space has been allowed be- tween the merchandise gondol- as. The store has a sales floor space of, 2400 square feet. Ten-Day Opening Sale Opening of the new Lake Super Mart today marks the appearance of the first additional major food outlet in Williams Lake in a number of years. The store also is making a new departure in the matter of loction, being “the first retail outlet to move away from the more central commercial district lower end of Oliver Located at Oliver and Sixth Avenue, the store is three blocks away from the central shopping area, Owner Harold Hunter, form- erly of Vernon, doesn’t believe his store's location will be an obstacle to trade. With plenty of parking space for customers, both on his property and or nearby traffic-quiet streets, he believes customers will welcome the opportunity of being able to drive up to shop without hunt- ing tor parking space. The store itself is of the ‘‘cash and carry” style and the owner feels that it will be possible to hold food prices down with this type of merchandising. It is a Nabob franchised store and will specialize in th well-known Nabob line of foodstutts. The new store marks the first expansion move of Mr. Hunter since he started in the grocety business ten years ago at Veron.
