Carols CHRIS’ TMAS There comes a sense of urg- ency when November suddenly turns into December and the friendly remarks of ‘Just an- other so many days before Christmas’’ becomes a whip that drives us more frantically into the fray of the annual Christ- mas batt We tick le; off mentally the things we have to do— Christ- mas cards to mail,— Gifts to buy—_A tree to get and decor- ate— a home-coming reunion to Plan. It*is the time of year when we try to see that everyone has enough to eat. Hampers are made up and distributed ahd we strive to see that ‘every child’s stocking is full. We endearvour to show a generosity and kind- ness in keeping with the season. Christmas time finds most of packed to the doors and some people will have the standing room only. Churches It is the season when some. of the most riotous and drunken parties will be given that will laun ch a growing number on a binge that will take them will into the New Year. And some will stop, and pause a while, and remember that many years ago a baby boy was born, and the noise that was heard that day was the song the angels sang, and the hasten- ing foot-steps of a group of sun- burnt, tanned and rugged shep- herds as they made their way to the stabl le “to see this which hast come to pass.” And, perhaps some, in spite of all the haste and hurry and urg- ency of the times, in spite of| the crowds and the glitter of | seele sparkling presents thing | strange lonesome feeling, a haunting sense that all this noise and confusion isn’t real— that life simply doesn’t “add “up’— and they will have a longing to turn back the calendar and, as the shepherds heard of old, lis- ten to the “song the angels sang.” The earnest question, ‘How can we make Christmas real?” is answered by the increasing plea to ‘Put “Christ” back into “Christmas”.' Until this hap- pens the greatest Gift ever giv- en will remain neglected and forsaken. The shepherds that heard the song of the angels, and the Wise Men that followed the star to lay their gifts before the Christ Child are, in a sense, timeless. They fit into every age, they come in modern dress, they can be you and me. “For unto YOU is born. this day’ and the word “YOU” is the largest word found in our dictionary for it includes the whole world. It we would make Christmas real, then we must answer, in all seriousness and heart-search- ing, the question, “Well, after all, do we really want to?” For the road that leads to Bethlehem and the Star which shines and lights the way to the manger, also leads the way into the pres- encet of God, and it is signifi- cant, deeply significant, that only a few came to see the Babe born of Mary. There -is a glorious promise that has been given of old and which still stands illumined in the light of the manger scene. “If with all your hearts ye truly me, ye shall ever surely will have a|find me.” In Jesus Christ, God oS and so, at this joyous and heartwarming season ; The blessings of friendship and loyalty are the very essence of the Spirit of Christmas... T & H Cariboo Transport Ltd. has made’ the way plain, but it| Saviour it behooves us to listen means that we must journey to Bethtlehem in the spirit of the shepherds and the Wise Men and worship Him, with all our heart. THE CHALLENGE “Mary kept all these things, and. pondered them in Her heart.” Noel is nearly here once again and everyone is preparing to have a good time, and in how many different ways? Mother Mary, you know look- ed forward to and prepared for the First Noel, and as each Phase of the Great Event was revealed to Her She thought deeply upon it, meditated upon the great part she was chosen to take in the Redemption of the world. By Her loving care and deyo- tlon to duty the young King was prepared for Manhood, and in the Power of the Holy Spirit He went forth to do the Will of God. What a challenge to motherhood of today? Mothers, are you prepared to accept the whole responsibility offered to you by the Almighty? Do you think deeply, do you medidate upon the meaning of the great Office you are called to bear for Almighty God, for His world? I do not think there can be any doubt as to the efficacy of the Holy Family, but what about the familles of today? Do they provide real homes for the chil- dren, homes where Christian Love abideth, where the children are taught, first by the good ex- amples set them by their Par- ents, and later also by word of mouth. The Holy Mother sets a chal- lenge to all Parents, the actions of our children, as they grow up is a proof as to whether we have accepted that challenge and done our-duty,- = Mothers, Fathers, as you pre- Pare to enjoy this Christmas- tide with your children, look on the deeper side of the Festival. As you have accepted the hon- our of Parenthood, accept also its duties and responsibilities. Think deeply upon its inner meaning, and prepare your chil- dren in every way for the fight of life, the Fight for the King- the dom of Heaven. We wish you all a Holy and Happy Christmas, and a Bright and Prosperous New Year. Geo. J. Fielder, Vicar, St. Peter's Church. GOOD TIDINGS OF GREAT Joy In Luke’s gospel chapter two verse ten we find these words “And the Angel said unto them, fear not; for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ tthe Lord.”* Down through the eenturies man has conveyed messages to One another by many different methods but the method did not matter it was the contents of message that was important. Some were good news bringing with them joy and comfort, others were opposite bringing sorrow and sadness. Almost two thousand years ago God sent an angelic mes- senger with a message to some working men, it was a message of good tidings of great joy, not only to them but to all people. The message in substance was that God was sending His Son to be the Saviour of the World. “God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosover believeth in Him should not perish, but have ever lasting life.” Thus we receive the wonderful news thtat we have a Saviour. For we certainly need one, “We have all sinned and come short of the glory of God.” “We have ail like sheep gonne astray,” snd all our righteousness sre as filthy rags. We certainly cannot stand before God in such a con- dition, but, God has good news for us, He sent His Son to be our Saviour. God named His Son Jesus, for He shall save His people from their sins. John Baptist looked on Him and saw, The Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world. This then is the good news. In that Jesus Christ is our to His counsel and advice as how to become a recipient and partaker of this good tidings. To Nicodemus, who was concern- ed about having a Saviour, in order that he might have eternal life, Jesus said, ‘You must be born again of the Spirit in order to see the Kingdom of God. Jesus enlarges upon what He means when He said “‘He that be- lieveth on Him is not condemn- ed: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” Believe that He is the Saviour, the Lamb of God, given a sacri- fice for us. ‘For as much as ye know that ye were not redeem- ed with corruptible things, as sil- ver and gold— but with the pre- cious blood of Christ, as a lamb without blemish and without spot.” God’s word elsewhere states that, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. That we may know that we have been * saved sin and been born again of the Spirit of God, we need have no doubt, for again God’s word has the answer: ‘There- fore if any man be in Christ he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become néw.” Truly this is a message of good tidings of great joy, For Emmanuel is born — God with (continued on back page) Peace and Heppiress | or CMuistnas j Moy ‘ai Holy Season bring to our many friends all the rich blessings that will make for happiness and joy through- @ut the year, © SP gi/|\V/\ A word of thanks and Season’s Gre ings t the many friends we have heen privileged to serve.
