Price were down slightly but stood well in com- parison with those in the rest of the province and in Calgary. 96 head were sold in this area last week. Good steers paid 17.50- 18.50; common to medium 15-17. Good heifers averaged 14-14.75, common to medium 12-13.50. Prices on cows were fairly steady with lighter cows at 9-10.50 and heavier kinds selling a 6-S. A couple of bulls sold hetween 7 and 10.50. From other yards and plants: 824 cattle, 217 SUMMARY All across Canada for the week ending September 3rd: Except for odd fractional gains and losses slaugther steers and heifers remained unchanged in price during the past week, There were numerous declines of 50¢ or more on cow sales, some of which were re- covered before the close. The feeder cattle division was featured by the keenest trade for some weeks with gains at Winnipeg and Calgary ranging from 25¢ to $1. Hogs sold at Montreal and Edmonton and some sales were 50c higher at Winnipeg. Lambs were in a general decline of $1-2 or more. calves and 265 sheep. For the fourth consecutive week, slaughter cattle receipts at the eleven public markets in the first four days trading totalled 25,500 head. This week’s run was 1,100 heavier at eastern terminals and down a similar amount in the west, the latter condition due to the at- tention being presently given to harvesting operations on the prair- ies. The supply was also. 3,000 less than in the same week a year ago. Demand for slaughter cattle was good everywhere. and, in general, supplies were well cleared at main- ly steady to firm prices on steers and heifers. Of course there were some price adjustmets both up and down but they were scattered and relatively minor. It was notable that all main market outlets this week priced choice steers in thé same range of $20-21.
