The owners Father and Son Combination Behind New Business Opening Next Week The latest addition to Williams Lake’s business section will be completed next Thursday when Al’s Variety Store Eos Ne ee ee have invested $20,000 in new stock to start off their business venture. Staff kept to a minimum with the use of a self-service system to speed up sales. Joe Howe, former RCMP ergeant here, is in charge of stock; Miss V. Glover, who has associated with the Smallenbergs for two years, is accountant; Mrs. T. Jamieson, former cashier at the Famous will oceupy the same position in the store and Miss Gladys Hall will be on the sales staff. 5 WIDE RANGE The new store, as the, announce- ment advertisement points out, will stock a wide range of items, from artificial flowers to hardware and from pencil sharpeners to clothing. Most of the stock is within a price range of 5¢ to $5 with some gift items slightly higher. The stock will lean heavily to gift items, and the managers say they will carry the widest range of toys in town. Other main supplies for the altera- tion work of the building were the the local firms of Central Plumbing & Heating, who handled the plumb- ing and heating installation work, and Cariboo Electric, who handled the wiring. WELL ESTABLISHED The Smallenbergs have been well established in the business life of the town since they came here in 1945 from Abbotsford. Alf Smallenberg arrived first to operate the Famous Bakery and Al joined him shortly after his discharge from the Air- force.
