With low grade materiai predominating there were unfilied orders, notable at To- ronto, for enough of the right kinds to satisfy even a slow moving dressed beef trade. i Top grades of steers recorded gains of 25-500 at Toronto and Cal- gary, the latter market having limit- ed demands from United States buy- ers, Otherwise the steer market was no better than steady and in some cases barely so. Heifers showed a similar trend but with Calgary the only market to show any price ap- preciaton. A REMINDER Cattle shipping season is starting up and we urge our members to com- ply with the Stock Brands Act more than ever. The ca(tleman asked for this act and we have to do our best to help the brand inspectors to keep it enforced. 5 Here are some points worth while remembering: < 1. No cattle will be accepted for shipment unless accompanied by a Form 3 properly completed by: the owner. 2. Forms 3 must show number of head of cattle, age, colour, markings, brands (if unbranded calves, give Dam’s brand an state that it is Dam’s brand), Vehicle Licence if trucked, Driver's signature, consignee, dated and signed by the OWNER of the cattle declared on the Form 3. 3. Not more than ONE owner’s cattle may be declared on a single Form 3. 4. Section 35 (8) of the brand Act reads as follows: “Iv shall be the duty of the owner of livestock to make ALL brands plainly “visible” before the cattle are brought in to the stock yards. Brands must be clipped if necessary. 5. If cattle are branded with al brand or brands other than the re-! gistered brand of the owner then the owner MUST produce a Memo of Sale to. prove - ownership. Failing that, the owner MUST give the brand inspector a Memo (Form 3) confirm- ing ownership signed by two respons- ible stockmen each of whom actual- ly own cattle and have a registered brand of their own. Forms 3 are always obtainable at the C.C.A. office.
