WITH IRENE We suspect that a lot of you will be saying “what dunderheads,” pat all we got to say is ‘“‘where were you on Monday night?” I'm talking about our bunting which is draped across the building for Stampede — and probably up- sidedown, We were early birds: the first ones to put up our decorations. All went well for the first Part of the eve- ning. We washed the windows, and Clive put new globes in the strings of lights around the sign. He ran two streamers of cclored pennants - from the sign back to the buildin So far so good. But things began to go slightly awry when we reached the bunting stage. With umpteen dozen yards of the platsic ved, white and blue wrap- ped around his neck, Clive went up and down the ladder, swung it & He - 4round, yelled at Eliane to get out of the way, up and down the ladder, yelled at Elaine to get out of the w: up and down the ladder, /?$ where is" the end of this stuff,” up and down, “Blaine will you get OUT OF THE Way?” The two girls whom we almost diopped the hammer on from the first-floor window look startled and indignant’ while they stared from the hammer lying on the pavement to our heads poked guiltily out of the window. Up the ladder for the umpteenth time, Clive suddenly stopped and said dispiritedly “Oh no.” “What's wrong?’*I enquired brightly but with misgivings. “There’s a right way and a wrong way to hang this stuff, T can’t remember whether the red should be at the top, or the blue.” :The more we thought of it, the more we suspected the red should be on top. We had it partly hung with the blue at the top naturally. During all this time, other more fortunate residents going by on their way to the show had stopped to offer comments ranging from downright insulting to very complimetary. While Clive perched on the ladder, I stopped and ask various important people who should have known the answer to our problem. Nobody knew. Church Services: ST.
