Instructor for the Teacher Training School Proposed For U.B.C. A proposal for the establishment of a teacher training college on the University of British Columbia cam- pus has been presented to the Univer- sity Senate by a committee repre- senting B.C. Teachers’ Federation. A University entrance certificate would be required of all students beginning work in the Teachers’ col- lege. At the end of a two year course an interim elementary certificate could be granted to students. Upon the completion of an additional three years of study, students would be awarded a Bachelor of Education de- gree with an elementary specialist certificate or an interim secondary certificate. Both elementary and secondary teahers would be required to put in one year as a teaching interne fol- lowing certification. During this period they would spend their time in classroom teaching, observation, marking papers, record-keeping, li- brary duties, co-curricular activities and substitute work. The B.C.T.F. also recommends the establishment of a model school o1 the campus in order to give teachers facilities for practise te. ing, observation, demonstration experimental work. The committee suggests that a Board of Teacher Training and Cer. tification be established, including representatives of the Department of Edueation, College of Education, B.C.
