A 35-hour week was olso voted on, according to secretary of the local union, Mr. S. McBurnie. The vote has been sent to Victoria for a referendum and results of this will be known here around the end of the-month. ICE STILL GOOD — Curling Winding Up According to club president, Fred Graham, the curling ice is still good. All of the men’s games have been played off and now scrub games are all that are being played. Fireman’s Ball Successful The annual Firemen’s Ball, held in the Elks Hall last night drew a good crowd, although not as large as previous year. To add an Irish theme to the evening, the hall was attrac- tively decorated, paper hats with shamrocks on them were given out and Irish solos were sung by Miss Kay Halleran and Bill Donovan. The music was provided by Imhoff's five piece orchestra. Smith, CBE, Firemen Called Out To Early Morning Blaze Firemen were called out at two o'clock Thursday morning to extin- guish a fire in a half ton light de- livery truck. The pickup, owned by Peter Nik- Kel, was parked below Railway Avenue, near the quonset hut. It is understood to have started when a lighted match was dropped near a leaking can of high octane gas sit- ting on the floor boards. The alarm was turned by RCMP Constable Jack Groves, who noticea flames while driving past on patrol. The cab of the pickup appeared badly burned, but damages have not yet, been evaluated. The truck has been taken to Williams Lake Motors for repairs. Mrs. L. Taylor has just returned from a two week visit to Snohomish, ‘ 2 -| Washington., Mrs. Stan Sloan is in Vancouver undergoing medical treatment, Auto Court Sold To Washington Buyers Sale of the auto court business known as Herbert Lodge was an- nounced this morning by owner Dune Herbert. i Buyers of the well-known auto court situated above Williams Lake are Ernest Jones and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Engstrom, all of Groville, Washington. The new owners have previously been engaged in ranching in Washington. The change-over will take place May 1. The business includes the lodge proper, seven rented units and a fill- ing station and coffee shop. The cof- fee shop and pumps are loased asa separate business. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert purchased the business on November 1, 1951. Although their-future plans have-nét been announced, they state they have made so many friends in Williams Lake they intend to stay here. The sale was handled by Jack Esler of F. B. Bass Ltd. CG.LT. Start New Project Next week the local C.G.I.T. organ- ization, under the Jeadership of Miss N. Holman, will begin a new project on Camperaft. This will include building an outdoor fire, lashing, making a bedroll and studying out- door life.
