Don Mars, past chairman of the
Group Committee, greeted the par-
ents and introduced the leaders and
stants — pointing out that
although it looked as if we had
plenty of leaders for the boys, in
reality we could always use more. He
invited any interested to contact the
Scoutmaster, Cubmaster, or commit-
tee chairman Joe Fraser, who is also
doubling as a Cub assistant. The
leaders were introduced in following
order — Scoutmaster Bob Penning-
ten with assistant Bernie Matthew;
Cubmaster Robt. Sweet with assist-
aunts Wm. Smith, Ed Deschene and J.
Fraser. There are about 30 cubs and
20 Scouts. After a short talk on
Scouting problems Mr. Mars turnéa.
the meeting over to the Scout and
Cub leaders.

The Cubs then gave a brief part of
their Ceremony which was both in-
teresting and amusing to the parents
and guests. The ring of small Cubs at

prospective Scouts saluted
Totem for the last time, re-
peating their Cub promises, after
which all the Cubs gave them the
Grand Howl. Then, after a final hand-
shake with their Leaders, the Cub-
master led them to the rope line to
introduce them to their new Scout-
master, At this time he also presented
each boy with a Service Star and
wished them Good Scouting.

The Scoutmaster spoke to the boys
on some points of Scouting and then
led them across the boundary into
the Scout troop. There he introduced
each boy to his Patrol Leader. who,
in turn, took the boys into their re-
spective Patrols. The boys participat-
ing in this ceremony were Bert Pos-

were served to the boys and young

Mr. Mars informed the parents
that the Scouts would be selling
Christmas trees on Saturday Decem- ;

their part by selling apples. The;
funds thus raised will enable the
local groups to enlarge their pro-

rerams and add more equipment so
badly needed for better Scouting and
Cubbing.

The local subdivision of the Cath-
olic Women’s League held their De-
cember meeting last Monday evening
in Columbus Hall when final plans
were made for the Annual Children’s
Christmas Party to be held Thursday
evening, December 17. Owing to the
cold weather and young children as
well as the sickness about, it will be
a rather short program commencing
at 7 p.m.

The League also accepted with re-
gret the resignation of its able treas-
urer, Mrs. Jean Purser, whose hus-
band, the well known B of M man-
ger, has just been posted to a new
bank in Lower Capilano. The secre-

Miss W. Weetman, was named
secretary-treasurer to complete the
term.

Brownies Hold
Christmas Party

Forty-three little girls in brown
berets and ties enjoyed themselves
immensely Monday afternoon when
the First Williams Lake Brownie
Pack turned their last meeting of '53
into a wonderful Christmas party.

After the usual opening ceremony

taimment, which included the “Ten
Little Bogarts” who turned into good
Brownies, tap dancing, popular songs
and carols and a few riddles. “Santa”
arrived, complete with “reindeer”
and bells to distribute the gifts which
the girls had brought to exchange.

The youngest Brownies were given
the honor of serving the others with
the sandwiches, cake and cookies
that each “six” had brought. The
party ended at 5:30 p.m. wi ha vote
of thanks being given to al’ the par-
ents who helped-so willing’ y.

the latest Browniekin, Noreen Kelt,
wos duly enrolled as a Bownie. The!
business being thus completed the
party was “on”. |

The girls made their own enter-

“He fell through some scaffold-
ing.”

“What was he doing?”

“They were hanging him.”
