Though notification via grape vine had been passed only a few days before, friends and neighbors arrived from West Branch, Kleena Kleene, Tatla Lake and Chilanko Forks. : ‘The young people, numbering al- most even with the grown ups, spent a hilarious evening around a bon- fire in the yard, sending up spark- showering rockets. At 8 p.m. they all collected to to view a full length colour movie of the 1953 Anahim Stampede and construction of the Bella Coola Road plus the final meet- ing of the two bulldozers responsible for building it. Supper was served buffet style, everyone having brought party provisions, resulting in a color- ful and varied assortment of party fare. Music was thoughtfully provid- ed by Dolores Carlton, Edith Hen- derson and West Branch’s Don Nich- jolson, with an electric recorder fill- ing in. The party progressed with dancing and visiting until 3:30\a.m. most families gathered their small children, asleep in the quieter regions of the ranch house, and drifted homeward. DON GAGNE and his family have been living at Joe Schuk’s ranch since about the middle of September. Don is working with Joe’s Cletrac dozer. ALEX MATHESON is quite happy with the progress he has been mak- iny plowing his Quetsin ranch. After spending ten days plowing at Tatla Lake he bro:ght the John Deere Diesel home to do his own work. PETE BAPTISTE has been build- ing a new cabin to house his chil- dren during the school term. The eabin is situated just west of the valley road and about a quarter.of a mile north of the John Henderson raneh buildings, leaving a mile and a half for the children to go to school. The weather has remained gqod for this time of the year, resulting in most of the Fall Work being well in hand. - CAPT. G. D. 0. LLOYD, who has been a resident of Tatlayoko for the past twenty odd years, has sold his ranch in the valley. Temporarily -as- sisting at the Kleena Kleene lodge, he intends fixing up his new place near there formerly owned by Pete i isvjen. MR. and MRS. The fireworks display was much enjoyed by old and young alike, while a large bonfire warmed up the coun- tryside. One unfortunate occurance was the total loss of a stack of baléd hay owned by J. Alexander. It was apparently ignited by a flying live coal from one of the rockets. GILBERT. FORBES has recovered! from his recent illness in Vancouver and has returned home. In his ab- sence he found that the spare wheel and tire had been stolen from his ear, which had been left parked by G.B 's home, WATER SUPPLY at the school is still a source of grief. The well seems to be quite useless being mostly mud. It looks as if the well-dillers will have to get back on the job and try drill- ing a litte deeper.
