The weather was ideal for the event. and following the sports, ice cream and a picnic supper was served for everyone. The annual ball game between Lone Butte children ana children from The Unicorn Guest Ranch saw Lone Butte win for the first time. The dance at night had a nice crowd. Just as I expected, we are spend- ing every spare moment at Chimney Lake again this year, and seeing ab- solutely nothing of the rest of the Cariboo. TI love Chimney Lake and am looking forward to the time when As we were in a hurry, I met only the postmistress, Mrs. Wm. Davies, whose husband operates a general store there. A gray-haired busy little woman, Mrs. Davies told me of the tremendous amount of mail she handled, the large population in the district caused mainly by the sawmill we have a snug cabin of our own on its shores (Clive i working on the logs now); but there are many other wonderful spots that I would like to visit, not to mention the people who have asked us to call. | We have been staying in a cabin at Sam and Nell Mitchell's lodge on the past two weekends, and to say that the youngest member of the family enjoys herself, is putting mildly. One of.the most intriguing items for her is sleeping ona camp cot carefully tucked in-between our bed and the wall. Sleep only claims Elaine after she has exhausted the possibilities of crawling over us, peering into our faces and squealing “Eeeee Mommy" and ‘‘Heeee Dadd then bouncing back to her own bed to laugh gaily at the excitement of these strange new adventures. I had a new adventure too. I ran / an outboard motor for at least twen- ty minutes all by myself, and with | no male within hailing distance. . | The women and children decided. to go for a boat-ride while the men struggled with the cutting and peel-| ing of logs. “Now you put the top lever in this position to start, and the bottom one is just left where it is. Then wind the rope around this fiy-wheel, pull, and hope for the best” instructed Clive. “If it should stall, just hold this little whatcha- macallit down and this other thing- amajig up for five seconds, and then try again.” Carefully I repeated all of the in- structions, and we cast off. Just as we were put-put-putting away, Stew- art called “do you know how to stop?” STOP? STOP? I thought in momentary panic, I don’t know how to STOP! “Pull the top lever right back” shouted Clive as parting in- structions. This would make a better story if we had stalled in the middle of the lake, but-nothing even slightly adventurous overtook us. We sailed along blithely, and I even put into shore a couple of times and stopped the motor. My passengers probably never realized my trepidation during the little trip though, I added another name last week to my list of places I have seen in the Cariboo. It was Lone Butte. Due to the rush of federal election Sport a Neat Comfortable Look industry, and how all the mail from Williams Lake for points south to Lone Butte is dropped off at that village on Thursday nights, then sent back up the line to Lae La Hache, 100 Mile House, etc., on Sat- urday morning’s train. ‘Seems a queer arrangement, but is caused by the fact that there is no mail clerk on Thursday’s train, Canim Lake Couple Exchauge Vows” A quiet wedding of special interest to Canim Lake was solemnized Sat- urday when Georgia Wilson exchang- ed vows with Raymond Galpin, both of that district. The ceremony was performed by Rev. G. W. Johnson at the Forest Grove Evangelical Free Church at 3 p.m. Mrs. Emily Fields was the bride’s sole attendant, while Mr. N. Mac- Donald supported the groom as best man. Mr. and Mrs. Galpin will make their home at Canim Lake.
