These hearings are before the Federal Power Commission in Wash- ington, D.C., and were resumed again after a three-week recess on May 26 The Northwest Natural Gas, which is headed by T. S. Dixon and associates, have withdrawn their application in view of an application by the same company to pipe natural gas from Al- berta to the eastern Canadian market. That leaves only two applications be- for the FPC, namely the Westcoast Transmission which is hoping to pipe gas from the Peace River.to the Pa- cific Northwest and the Blpasso Na- tural Gas, which is headed by 2. G. Fish of Texas. The Westcoast has ample proven reserves, a situation the Texas Lom- many cannot duplicate. The gas which R. G. Fish would supply to the Pacific Northwest would have to be taken from the San Juan Basin in New Mex. ico and Colorado. Since the hearing started, the City of Portland Utilities has signed for Peace River gas and also the B.C. Electric in Vancouver. Only the Seattle market remains io be signed up. George McMahon stated from Calgary recently that the chanc- es were about 90% in favor of the Canada gas for the Pacific Northwest market. Natural gas which is now served from the Pacific Petroleum wells on the border of Alberta and is piped 16 miles into the village of Dawson Creek. Natural gas for householders in that village is exceptionally cheap. A four room house with a furnace, a kitchen range and a water jacket, costs about $6.00 a month we are told by one householder who happened to be in town last week. The B.C. Power Commission with a plant in Dawson Creek, has been able to reduce the : 1 oil for the light plant. Natural gas will flow over the Hart Highway in a pipe line which will fol- low the road from a gathering point near the Pine River steel bridge. It will come from both Fort St. John field and probably the Bonanza field which is at the provincial boundary. Prince George, Quesnel and Williams Lake will be served. A spur line will be run to the Okanagan and Kam- loops, Mr. McMahon said. If the Federal Power Commi: grants the permit, the West Coast will have the dirt flying before snow, aad no delay is expected, as all the surveys have been made and approved for the choice of route. 5 Roe Lake News (held over) THE DANCE given at the Roe Lake Hall last Saturday night was well attended, including a large party from Canim Lake and several from Lone Butte, Ninety dollars was taken at the door, the money to be lused on the hall, The dance was spon- sored by the Roe Lake W.I. Although in 1952 the Bible Society published the Scriptures in 10 more languages and distributed over 5% million copies of the Scrip- tures, the speaker said that much more might have been done if those who have the Bible had been more generous in their giving to the So- ciety which is at the heart of the mis- sionary enterprise of every Christian communion.
