; i Thursday, April 16, 1953. THE TRIBUNE, WIHAMS LAKE, B.C. Moose Jaw, Sask., got its name from an Indian phrase meaning “where white men mended cart with jaw bone of moose.’” This advertisement is not published or displayed by the Liquor Control Board or by the Government of British Columbia This Week by BE. D. Fulton, M.P. In Ottawa April 4th, 1 ADJOURNMENT As I write this the House has ad- journed for the Easter Recess. The holiday is a short one this year, trom Good Friday to Easter Monday in- clusive, but it does give a breathing spell before Parliament gets down to the heavy program of work still the very heavy program of work still outstanding and _ requiring to be dealt with before the end of the session. Although considerable pro- gress has been made in these last two weeks in dealing with the great quantity of legislation standing on | the Order Paper — all the lesisla- tion arising out of the Budget, as well as several other bills have beer got out of the way — there is still a héavy program before us. ‘The whole of the main estimates totalling over $4,000,000,000 still has to be considered. | DEADLNE Extended sittings will be neces- sary to try to finish the work before the House has to rise to let the offi- cial party leave for the Coronation. No firm date has yet been set for the end of the session, but it is obvious that the Prime Minister and other Members of the Government will wish to have some time free of Par- SEE US! and doors, plywood, all kinds, YOUR BUILDING For Your Spring BUILDING REQUIREMENTS WE CARRY A COMPLETE LINE OF Builders’ Hardware, Nails, Cement, R rey and building papers, Wallboard, paints, sash mouldings, bricks, flue liner, chimney blocks, tile pipe, lumber of H. For some time, the general talk was that the target date by which, they wished to be through the work | of the session was May Ist, to leave; sufficient leeway so that those-mem- bers of the official party who wished to go over by boat could get away on May 15th or shortly after. EXTENSION? It is obvious now that the House! cannot finish the work before it by May Ist, and corridor comment has it that the closing date will not be earlier than May 15th or 20th. One thing is certain, the House cannot continue to sit after the official party leaves for the Corona- tion, because in addition to tne Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition and the Ministers of Trade and Commerce and Public Works, both the Speaker and the Clerk of the House of Commons are attending as members of the official Canadian delegation to the Corona- tion. Parliament could not function without its Speaker or Clerk and it is therefore obvious that although there may be some extension to try to finish up the work, Parliament must adjourn when the official group leaves. SPECULATION As a by-product of all these changes and considerations, the: has been constant speculation about the effect of the Coronation date on the timing of a Federal general elec- tion. One fact is now clear — there can be no election before the Coro- nation. At least sixty days is re- SUPPLY DEALER ORDER YOUR COUNTER SALES BOOKS RUBBER STAMPS from THE TRIBU. THE 4-30 HAS POWER!
