Touring Cheque Artist Gets Two Years An American citizen who defraud- ed a local grocery store out of $30 last November, has been sentenced to two years in jail by a Winnipeg The man, Joseph Catten, was driy- ing through Williams Lake last fall when the local incident occurred. He went into the store, purchased sev- eral small items and proffered a $30 cheque in payment. The cheque was subsequently found to he valueless. In Winnipeg he faced 14 charges of false pretenses’ and one of traud. After serving his term he will be de- ported to the United States where he is also wanted by police.
