KAMLOOPS SHOW TO ADOPT BULL
SALE GRADING SYSTEM THIS YEAR

Kamloops — Bull Sale officials are
highly optimistic over the 35th An
nual Provincial Bull Sale and Fat
Stock Show to be held March 10,13
and 12.

They state there is a large entry
with 146 bulls recorded from 45 of
the top-notch breeders from all parts
of British Columbia. One hundred
and sixteen of the 146 bulls are Here-
fords while 23 are Shorthorns and
seven are Angus.

The Sale will be the first in B.C.
history as far as Kamloops officials
know, to employ a grading system
for bulls. E. P. Oreutt, livestocle
specialist from Montana State. Col-
lege at Bozeman, Montana, will be
grader.

FIVE CATEGORIES re

It is expected that all hulls will be
be graded nto five categories and that
each breed will be sold in the order
of grading beginning with Herefords
and followed by Angus and Short-
horns.

Bull-grading has been used for a
long time in different’ parts of the
western United States; in the Red
Bluff, California, sale, which ranks as
one of the largest in the U.S., grad-
ing has been used for many years to
the satisfaction of both buyers and
sellers. {

Grading date will be March 10,
following placing of the single classes
of fat cattle. d

Provisional grading categories’ are
as follows: A, B plus, B, B minus
and C. Any bulls which fail to quaii-
fy for the C ring will be culled. It
is the expressed intention of the Bell

livestock prices does not indicate a
continuation of the upward curve
which has held for the past 10 years.

whose entire policy for a number of
years has been towards such economy
in production, can be relied upon to
improve both efficiency and quality
of herds in which they are used.
