LOCAL MEN ATTEND
CLINTON CEREMONIES

Headed by president Bert Roberts,
a three-man’ delegation from the
local Board of Trade attended the
charter night ceremonies at Clinton
last Friday when the Clinton and
District Chamber of Commerce cr-
ficially came into being. The other
members of the delegation were
Clive Stangoe and Ed. Follis. =

Following a game banquet which
was attended by 130 people, Clinton
chamber president Cedric Dorell ana
vice-president George Keeling took
their oaths of office from govern-
ment agent W. H. Cope.

Charter was presented by George
Greer, president of the Kamloops
Board of Trade.

Larry Eckroyd, secretary of the
B.C. Chamber of Commerce, out-
lined the history of the movement
and spoke on the work a board of
trade or chamber of commerce could
do in a community:

Harry Marriott of Big Bar Creek,
who has been in the Clinton-Gang
Ranch area for the past 40 years,
made a colourful appeal to the busi-
nessmen to boost their community.
A natural humorist, Mr. Marriott
sprinkles his conversation with odd
figures of speech. Commenting on an
error a previous speaker had mace
in referring to the main course as
cow moosemeat, Mr. Marriott said
the meat was from a young bull and
consequently was much better than
cow meat. “Why,” he said, “at this

time of year there isn’t enough fat!

Other speakers at the hanquet were!
Mr. Roberts, president J. K. Browr|
of the Forest Grove Board of Trade;
Bob McCallum, president of the Ash-
croft board, and M. Black, président
of the Kamloops Junior Chamber of
Commerce.

Also attending the banquet from
Forest Grove was W. W. McNabb,
secretary of the board there.

Oliver Street, installation of a water
system adequate for many years to
come, besides many minor improve-
ments incidental to the management
of the Village.

Although on several occasions
there were sharp differences of opin-
jon between Mr. Anderson and my-
self, taken over the years, friendly
relations were more the rule than the
exception. I believe I am voicing the
wishes of almost all those that have
seen the changes that have taker]
place in the Village during his term!
