A number of years ago, I complain:
d to Clive one day that I could not
“ollow world events through the
nedium of the. daily newspapers,
hat I became hopelessly confused
with the day-to-day reports of the
U.N., the war situation, and even vur
own Canadian politics. I felt woe-
fully uninformed.

He urged me to read Time, the
weekly newsmagazine, trom cover to
cover, something he had been doing
for a considerable length of time. I
had looked at Time before, but in a
cursory way, touching only on those
subjects which particularly interest-
ed me — Medicine, Books, Cinema
and ,People.

So I set myself a goal, and with
an air of resignation composed my-
self to wade through uninteresting
politics and war news in order to be
illuminated on world events. But
after a week or so, this attitude re-
solved into one of keen interest, and
not a word missed my eager eye. I
could hardly wait for the next issue
to arrive to find out what was hav-
pening in China, Turkey or India:
how business was with Consolidated
Iron, and even study the work of
some modern artist.

ty Questions with our friends for I
could pick out some official of an
obscure country and keep them

I felt that here was a magazine

that printed only the facts, that nev.
er misquoted or colored the news :r
any way (Jack Scott's opinion not-
withstanding) and I read on and on.

But when we came to Williams]
Lake, the rush and bustle of trying
to accumulate and print the news
here was too much for us, and Lime
magazine began to pile up on the
shelf unread. So we finally cancellea
our subscription.

Now that I am a housewife again
with the odd moment to spare fur
reading, I felt I should again try to
keep up with world affairs and so
subscribed to Time recently.

Other than that it is somewhat
thicker than it used to be, due no
doubt to. more advertisements, the
magazine looks much the same. But
as soon as I sat down to read, I
knew that TIME had dealt me a dirty

blow. My tried-and-true factual
friend was gone. TIME was pro-
Eisenhower and letting the world
know.

I’m an Bisenhower fan myself
(with true female logic, I would
vote for him because I like him),

but I was depending on Time to pre-
sent the true picture.

Guess I'll continue to read it;
after all, I've got a whole year’s sub-
scription to go. And I don’t suppose
their partiality will extend to other
,departments such as Medicine,
|Sports, and other world happenings

Madsen, a former resident of Wil-
liams Lake who is no doubt vividly
remembered by a great many people.

She passes on a little news of it-
terest to us here. It seems that she
attended a shower recently for Ks-
telle Robinson, a former Public
Health nurse here. Estelle. became
Mrs. George Bates on October 25th
at North Vancouver, and will reside
near Courtenay where her husband
owns a fishing resort.

Helen brags about the South Bur-
naby weather and the fact that she
