Interior communities were shock-
ed this week to hear of the sudden
death of EB. C. Carson, M.L.A. ‘The
people of the Interior felt that
‘Brnie’ Carson belonged to them be-
cause of his family’s long associa-
tion with the Lillooet area.

He rose to the peak of his political
career as Minister of Public Works
in the Coaliton Government ang
greater honor ‘seemed destined for
him. Just prior to his death it seem-
ed likely that he would be chosen
leader of the provincial Progressive-
Conservative party, replacing Her-
bert Anscomb who resigned last
Saturday.

Mr. Carson was found unconscions
in the garden of his Victoria home
about 0 a.m. Tuesday by reia-
tives. He was dead by the time a
doctor arrived.

Ernest Crawford Carson was bora
June 9, 1894. He grew up on the
Lillooet ranch, herded eattle and
then opened a general store. at tle
age of 24 Ernie threw his hat in the
political ring in 1928 ana rode into
office in the Tolmie landslide.

In 1933 and 1937 he ran for the
Legislature but could not buck the
Liberal strength: In 1941 he won
the Lillooet seat and became a cab-
inet minister.

The ex-minister is survived hy
his wife; two sons, Pat and Jack in
Victoria and a daughter,» Mra,
Thomas Sutton, Tranquille; his bro-
ther, Robert and two sisters in Sai-
mon Arm and Princeton.
