The month-long cattle drive from
Anahim Lake is reckoned as the lon-

ON MEAT IMPORT
NOW LIFTED

Dr. W. F. B. Smith. B.C. chief of
the Health of Animals Division of
the Federal Department of Agricul-
ture, announced last Thursday. that
almost all restrictions on import of
meat to, British Columbia now have
heen removed.

A telegram received by Dr.
from Ottawa stated;

“Special restrictions on the move-
ment of cattle, sheep, gouts, and
ewine into the Province of B.C. dre
to the outbreak of Foot-and-Mouth
disease in Saskatchewan are re-
moved. Also restriction on all meats
removed.”*

The change does not apply to the
movements of cattle and swine or
meats from the “quarantined and
buffer areas in Saskatchewan.

A spokesman for a Vancouver
packing house said these alterations
in the regulations would have. “very
little effect” on the B.C. market. He
said B.C. has been doing a great
deal of slaughtering without fear of
@ surplus, because the Federal Goy-|
ernment has been buying up all the
surplus meat for the four-way deal
between ‘Canada, Britain, New Zen-
land and the United States.

He said Alberta stands to henefit
more from lifting of the ban than
B.C.
