Beef Cattle Growers’ Association at the annual meeting held at Merritt, May 30. He succeeds Tom Wilson. Vinsulla. Mr. Wilson is first vice-president and Brian K..de P. Chance, Doug las Lake, is second vice-president Fry, Kamloops, continves as secretary. The annual meeting saw more thar 100 persons attending from all parts of the province. They included ranch- ers, provincial government officials, University of B.C., the RCMP, rail- roads and others interested in the progress of agriculture. Delegates went on record as favoring work- men’s compensation on a voluntary basis. They also passed a resolution calling for action in the matter of tin cuns, beer bottles and other rubbish along the highways. Delegates pointed out that such dumps not only destroy the beauty of the countryside, but are a menace to human and animal life. Other resolutions passed were that the B.C. Beef Cattle Growers’ Association con- tinue to press for a larger portion of the budget to be allocated to Agri- culture, OFFER REWARD . The B.C. Beef Cattle Growers’ Association insert an advertisement in all local newspapers and sports magazines immediately prior to and 'during hunting season to inform hunters of reward money paid ny the | association for information leading to the arrest and conviction of per- ip killing and stealing cattle. Beef Cattle Growers’ Association enlist the support of the Federation of Agriculture with a view to securing the fullest support of all farm organizations in Canada |connected with the beef industry. The Minister of Agriculture be urged to continue the policy of in- structing and training police officers in the administration of the Brands Act under the supervision of the Re. corder of Brands. LONE BUTTE OLDTIMER HONOURED ON EVE OF DEPARTURE FOR: On Wednesday evening, June 4th, a farewell party was given in the community hall in honor of Herman Kreig. Mr. Kreig is a graduate of the University of Oslo, Norway, who settled on a pre-emption on Horse Lake in 1914. Mr. Kreig has traded his place for two properties in Van- couver. The new owners of his Horse Lake property are Messrs Atlcinson, two brothers. At the party all the oldtimers of the district were present to say farewell, and the party lasted until 2:30 a.m. Mr. Kreig has been a member of the Farmers Institute for the last 24 years. He was given a life member- ship and made Honorary President. ON SATURDAY Lone Butte had its second annual May Parade. It was a wonderful parade with a float and decorated bicycles. All the chil- dren were in costume. Last year’s queen, Miss Edyth Winteringham, came all the way from Vancouver to crown the new queen, Miss Lola De- Vries, who was dressed in a floor- jJength white satin gown. Her prin- cess Patricia Batkin wore pink silk and Princess Ruth Larum a green silk gown. They looked lovely. Be- fore the parade the judges gave prizes for various costumes and bi- cycles, etc. A first prize was given to Marilyn Couckel for a Maypole com- plete with dancers on a small wagon.
