S. (Hal) Quinn, 36-year-old chief pilot for Central B,C. Airways. The veteran pilot was drowned while taking off from a lake near Fowler Station, 48 miles east of Kenora, Ontario. . Also killed in the mishap was Ole A. Johanneson of Sioux Lookout, a Passenger in the aircraft which Mr. Quinn was ferrying from the factory at Toronto to British Columbia. Bye-witnesses report the pontoon- equipped plane overturned as it was about to make its take-off from the lake, and sank like a stone. The two men had landed shortly before to escape a thunderstorm. They were enroute from Toronto to Sioux Lookout. Mr. Quinn had resided at Kam- loops for the past several years. He is married and has one child. A veteran of Northland and Brit- ish Columbia flying, Mr. Quinn went east recently to ferry the, aircraft from Toronto to Kamloops for Cen- tral B.C. Airways Ltd., which holds the B.C. Forest Service contract for aerial fire-spotting and supplying of the crews fighting forest fires. He served with the RCAF in the second World War Alexis Creek News MR. and MRS. There they had races, games, etc., and partook of their large picnic lunch. Then, tired but happy arrived home in time for supper, THE Community Club held their final business méeting of the year last Tuesday.
