Now that the ruling circles in this country no longer feel the immediate th continue his and the been released to monstrous activities, charges of the Canadian people against him have been brushed aside. When the British government yeleased Sir Oswald Mosley, head of the British Union of Fascists, It tried to plead “Compassion- ate grounds.” “Sir Oswald,” they said, “has phlebitus and there- Death to all Fascists — except those with phlebitus!” But the Canadian government offers no reasons whatsoever for the release of Arcand. He has neither phiebitus nor any other malady,-save a mortal desire to undo the long struggle of the Canadian people for prosperous and democratic nationhood. The Canadian casualties in this war testify to the desires of the Canadian people to wipe out Hit- Jerism in-all lands. The release of Arcand is a direct blow by the government at. everything thousands of our best sons’ have given their lives to win. The de- mand rising in the B.C. labor movement for the bringing to trial of Arcand on charges of treason is merging with a similar demand throughout all’ Canada. B.C. anti-fascists are not forget- ting— @ That Adrien Arcand worked with the Nazi leaders long be- fore Hitler came to power. His Montreal paper, Le Patriote, he. boasted, “is known by Hitler and is very well ap- preciated by. the Nazi propa- ganda bureau.” @® That Arcand organized open fascist rallies in many Canadian cities, and spoke alongside such Nazi spies as Fritz Kuhn, former leader of the German-American Bund, now imprisoned in the Uni- ted States. e@ That Arcand was active, along with such figures as Dr. Gabriel Lambert, in- the publica- tion of obscene fascist propa- ganda, such as the tabloid “The Key to the Mystery,” which con- sisted of the most vicious anti- Semitic diatribes the Nazi prop- ganda bureau could find. @ That in 1988 Arcand became “Der Fuehrer” of a _ coast-to- coast fusion of fascist groups called the National Unity Party. This group gave its members military training, while Arcand issued his notorious proclamation of an impending “march on Ot- tawa” to take over the ‘govern- ment,-and attempts were made agent Kurt Ludecke has des- cribed how he drove to Montreal to carry disaffection into the Ca- nadian army. Arrangements Completed For LPP Summer School “All Party Clubs throughout BC. should immediately submit names of their members they would like to see attend ‘the Labor-Progressive Provincial School this September if they have not already done so” Bill Turner, Convenor of the School Committee an- nounced this week. “Since the school is being held from Sep- tember 4 to 13 inclusive, immedi- ately prior ta the provincial convention of the party, at which all clubs are expected to have delegates present, it is hoped that the students will be drawn from all over the province and not simply from the Lower Main- land. : Personnel directors of the Greater Vancouver clubs have already met and are completing the lists of students from this area. Among the'city clubs par- ticipating is the new Ginger Goodwin Youth Club of young party, members, formed to carry forward the tradition of the great B.C. leader after whom the club is named. This is an encouraging sign for the future of our party.” The intensive study of scien- tific socialist theory which will | be conducted under the guidance of provincial LPP Leader Fer- gus McKean and National Lead- er Tim Buck is designed to ground people who have already shown leadership ability in the Marxist-Leninist principles es- sential to’ their future work. The schoo] will be held at Or- lomah Beach, the campsite being available through the coopera- tion of the Children’s Summer Camp Committee. _The School Committee, Room 209 Shelly Building, includes Bill Turner, Maurice Rush, Ruth Tur- ner, Al Grinkus and Wes Wot- ton. . ld TyAuuysuUHivNVUNususuuuanyaFeuusvuvupeutanyevssu4eHEOTRASiLVOOEEAS09 040000 000000000 000TH a2 090 02s0 0 nEEax9¢C2q2 0002 9827207822102 000000000; VIVA LA BELLE FRANCE! Although the Minis- ter of Justice had declared at the time that these men had been guilty of a plot against the state and had been in communication with the enemy, the charges laid in’ 1940 have never been dis- posed of. — Prior to the federal elections, it was emphatically stated in Ot- tawa circles that there was no truth to the rumours of Arcand’s impending release. Now-that the elections: are over, Arcand, with- out ever being cleared of the charges laid against him in 1940, is free to resume his treachery to Canada. His release is an open incitement: to ‘all the most reac- tionary forces in British Colum- bia, to those men, still amongst us. who worked with Arcand and cthers to bring fascism to this province.
