The speaker criticized the Lib-
eral - government for having
failed to immediately “imple-
_ment its manpower plebiscite

been vigorously initiated, in Can-
ada generally and in Quebec
particularly, on the real issues
of the war, then total mobiliza-

tion could have been enforced
without serious repercussions,”
he said. “The Liberal govern-

ment capitulated at that time to

| portions.”

The LPP leader charged that
the CCF welcome the prospect
of a reactionary Tory-Liberal
coalition government and were
|giving no consideration to the
|effects on the people. They vis:

opposition for the next five
years.

The only way to defeat reac-
tion was for a coalition of Labor-
Progressives, CCF and Liberals
to exclude reaction and form the
next government, he asserted.

“Our first task is to elect as
many labor members as possible
and then form a progressive co-
alition with other democratic
elements,” McKean said: “In

the pressure of réaction’ and/that way Canada will have labor
hesitated thus making it easier|representatives in government
for reaction to make an}/for the first time.”

Other highlights of the week were = $68. 00 donation “from
Victoria, which makes a total of $80.00 since “the first of ‘the
year. And we also acknowledge with thanks a donation of $3.00
from John Villa of Vancouver.

ped out a program that corre-
ponds fully to the needs and de-

people all over the world. This
conference complements the
great work of the Crimea con-
ference and it is equally signi-
fieant historically in building
friendship between the nations.”

ALLAN S. HAYWOOD,
man of the conference’s commit-
tee on postwar reconstruction
and immediate trade union de-
mands, said energetically: “We
accomplished what we set out to
