Agreement Signed

PORT ARTHUR. — (FP). — An
agreement between the Port Arthur
milk drivers’ local and the Thun-
der Bay Cooperative Dairy has
ben signed after weeks of negotia-

ond recent strike in Dominion Tex
tile plants took place as 200 spin-
ning room workers walked out at
St. Gregoire, textile town east of
Quebec City, demanding a 15 per
cent inerease in wages. The plant
was shut down, effecting 1,800
workers. A strike was recently won

Sunday, January 3, a memorable
day in so far as the checker players
of Burnaby are concerned. The two
new indoor checker boards in Cen-
tral Park were officially opened.
Messrs. Price and Macdonald of
South Vancouver, enesaged Marshall
and Cox of Burnaby. in a two-game
friendly match. Mr. Price defeated
Mr. Marshal] 2-0. Mr. Macdonald
and Mr. Cox breaking even with the
Score of one win each. We feel safe
in assuming that those are the only
two boards of their kind in Canada,
perhaps in the Bnslish-speakine
checker world. The checker resi-
dents of Burnaby are to be com-
mended on their achievement, also
Mr_ Robertson, secretary of the B.C
Checker Association, whose untiring
efforts in the interests of the game
have done much towards making
this possible. :
