It’s open until Aug, 15, . Grewal helps secondary and post-secondary. students —_ find employment, provides informa- tion to potential employers, and posts job orders. She also holds group and indi- vidual information sessions. She helps develop resumes and cover letters, and fills students in on in- terview skills and job-searching techniques. Since Grewal’s main duty is to help students, it’s fitting that she’s one herself. She. attended Northwest Community College, and will be going to UBC in the fall to complete her chemistry studies. “When employers hire a stu- dent, they’re investing in a poten- tial future employee, theyre in- -vesting in the future of their com- pany, they’ re investing in the fu- ture of Terrace,”’ said Grewal. ~ In the first week, 119 students registered at the centre, although only 13 job vacancies had ap- OPE FOR business Is the student employment centre at the Canada Em ployment Centre on Lazelle Ave. Gurmit Grewal is the placement officer this year and she's looking for Job bookings for students. Grewal added that many jobs are services or sales positions. Some employers participate in Challenge 93, a federal program that provides government sub- sidies for private, public and non- profit organizations so they can afford student employment. This year, $82,373 was pro- vided to help pay for costs, and 5G Terrace jobs have been ap- proved to participate in the pro- gram.
