’ GENERAL COMMENTS ON LOCAL CRIMINAL & DRUG ACTIVITIES During the month of July, 1974, a total of 27 persons were charged with offences under the Narcotic Control and Food & Drugs Acts. Heroin is not readily available in the Coquitlam or Port Coquitlam areas. Major crime during the month of July: {a} On the 9th of July, 1974, the body of Roberta Denise GATES, iS years, was found on Burke Mountain. Subsequent investi- gation into the murder was extensive, and the assistance of outside investigators, involved in other unsolved sex murders in the Province, were utilized. At this writing, the murder has been solved and will be reported on further for activities during the month of August. During July, a patrol car came across a camper truck parked in an isolated portion of Coquitlam. Upon further investi- gation, it was discovered that our patrol had come across a young girl being raped by a male adult. This person, who has a previous record for rape, is presently before the Court. On the 7th of July, Margaret ANDERSON's body was found on Burke Mountain, when she fell to her death while hiking with her husband. The ANDERSONS' became lost and were trying to make their way down over difficult terrain. Assistance was obtained from the British Columbia Mountain Rescue, North Vancouver Emergency Measures Organization,and the Armed Forces hir-Sea Rescue, in order to search and retrieve the body.
