She graduated a Sergeant from the Code and Cypher School in Guelph, Ontario, remaining there as an instructor until being posted to No. 9 Bombing & Gunnery School in Mont Joli, Quebec. She was then called to Ottawa, along with three other girls, to take charge of the Code and Cypher Office at Airforce Headquarters. She received her commission as a Section Officer in Toronto and retumed to Ottawa for the duration of tha war. Norma was discharged in Vancouver following Bill's return from overseas In mid-1945. After the war, they lived in Vancouver, where Norma gave birth to her son Ric in August of 1946. In 1951 they moved to Bremerton, Washington, before arriving in Terrace in 1958 where she and Bill owned and operated “The” Motel for 29 1/2 years. That was where Norma found the time to collect local pioneer histories, which resulted in the publica- tion of “Pioneer Legacy", Volume |, in 1997.
