After the wedding. cer- emony, the wedding party went over to the brides- maid’s house for a small reception, and later ‘they all went to a public dance at the Moose Hall. Marie was born August 31, 1932 in her grandma’s house on the. Cald Mine Road in Telkwa,. B.C, Marie came from a family of 10 children, When her mother remarried, four Stepsisters and one step- brother came along, mak- ing this a family of 15 children. . Marie grew. up in Tel- kwa. Al age 16 she left home to go to work at her firsl job at the cook house in Port Edward. Bul from the time Maric was 12 year ald, she used to work for different families around Telkwa with baby sitting and help- ing with housework. And in the 40s she helped her fa- mily with market garden- ing. . When the family lived on the arm at the-far end at Tyee Lake. Where naw a road is named for her fa- mily, called Fox: Road, Reg Beckley was born and raised in Saskatche- wan.He came from a fami- ly-of -only.-two- boys. His older brother Victor still lives in Kelvinglon. Reg worked for differen! farmers from the time he was 14. years old. In the winters he worked in log- ging camps... Reg worked on farms in Saskatchewan until the fall of 1948; Afterward, he worked at Alice Arms on the mine site. He. left there in April 1949 to help build the Co- Jumbia Cel) Pulp Mill in Port’ Edward. This was where Reg and Marie's life together began. Afler they were mar- tied, they lived in’ Prince Rupert and Reg continued ta work al the Columbian Cell Pulp Mill. Marie worked at the local bus depot. The couples first three children’ Larry, Linda and Donna. were born in Prince Rupert. Their son Roy was born in 1955 while they were living in. Kitimat. In 1951, Reg went to work on the construction of Alcan. The family lived in Kitimat until 1959. In 1959, the Beckley family moved to Terrace. At this time Reg was working for Peter Kewitt HAPPILY MARRIED: Terrace residents Reg and Couple celebrate 50th anniversary Marie Beckley were married December 17, 1949, upgrading the Prince Ru- pert Highway. From there Reg went to work for Wilf Haugland in logging. He worked here until he re- tired in 1987, When Reg and Marie first moved ta Terrace, they rented a house from Chris Haugland, which was at the location ‘of Gim’s Restaurant. They lived here until 1963 when they bought the properly on Hamer Ave-- nue. They have lived here ever since, Now their children are all grown up and have left home, Reg and Maric have been spending their retire- ment years together fishing and camping. They have also travelled across Ca- nada twice, Both have also been active curlers and enjoy their garden. Earlier in the summer a 50th anniversary celebra- lion was held for them at Elks Hall. The celebration had (o he held in the sum- mer so that all the children could attend, I had the great privilege of altending this special celebration, it was a won- derful happy gathering with family and lots of old friends. Reg and Marie now have 14 grandchildren and three great grandchildren, with two more on the way. To Reg and Marie, a very happy anniversary and good health to both.
