TERRACE PIONEER: Floyd Frank celebrated his

95th birthday with his sisters Belle, Mildred and

Pioneer turns 95 years old

necr Frank family of Kit-
sumkalum celebrated birth-
days last month.

I had the great privilege
September 13 of attending
Floyd Frank’s 95th birth-
day party at Terraceview
Lodge..

Floyd had a two-day
birthday celebration. The
first party was on Sunday,
Sept. 12 when Terraceview
residents enjoyed birthday
cake and coffee.

Then on Monday, Sep-
tember 13, Norman and

Linda Frank (Floyd’s son)
treated a few special guests
to a Kentucky Fried Chick-
en dinner. Of course we
shared-more bitthday cake
and enjoyed a. delicious
homemide pie by Aileen.
The gathering-was small,
but it was a happy occa-
sion. Floyd’s sister, Belle,
flew in from from. Calgary,
Alberta to attend her: bro-
ther’s 95th birthday party.
Belle also. celebrated <a
special birthday recently —
she turned 93 years old on

: September 9, 1999,

Both Floyd and Belle
were born in Port Essing-
ton. |.

In May of 1908, they tra-
velled with their mother by
stern wheeler riverboat ta
live.as pioncers in the Kit-
sumkalum: Valley. : Floyd
has lived his entire life
along the Skeena River.

Floyd was born on Sept.
13, 1904, Over the ycars,
Floyd has been a ‘tarmer,
milkman, politician, author
of two books, and a song
writer.

Her has dedicated a large
portion of his life to sharing
with others the storics of
pionecr life in the valley.

For that, | want to thank
him. Without Floyd, we
wouldn’t know as much
about the history of the val-
ley, Floyd has a wonderful
memory-and he jusi loves to
talk about the good old

’ days.

Floyd’s sister, Belle
Watt, was born on Seplem-
ber 9, 1906, Belle has been
a poet — she’s wrilten two
books of poems, plus she is
the author of three. history
books.

Beile’s life has been var-
ied. She worked on her fa-
ther’s fruit and vepetabic
farm when she was young,
and during the war years,
she drove a crane for the
American’s in the shipyard
in Prince Rupert. She has
also worked as a cook ina
logging camp, sold real es-
tate; and. been an artist.

Belle said whoever she
was lonely and homesick
for the lovely Skeena Val-

Floyd and Belle’s sister
Dorothy Smith was born on
July 4, 1913 at the Frank
family home al Kitsumka-
lum. Dorothy is a true pio-
neer lady. How may people
can say they were born in
Kitsumkalum 85 years ago
and still live here?

Dorothy also wrote love-
ly poems and she tov did
some water colour.

Dorothy and her husband
Earl Smith are currently
living at Terraceview
Lodge.

Last but not least, i is sis-
ter Mildred. She was. born
on May 30, 1921 in the
Prince Rupert Hospital:
Mildred is the quiet one
when all the Frank’s are to-
gether. Mildred just sits

and listens. She loves her’

sisters and her brother very,
much.

The Frank’s 90 year old
family hame, which is Ter-
race’s oldest heritage

home, still stands by the °

Skeena River.
