The 100-mile race saw touring Terrace master Mike Christensen win without too much trouble. About halfway through, the four- some of three Terrace riders (Christensen, Colin Parr and Chiron Kantakis) plus race organ- izer Peter Krause of Smithers broke away from the pack. By about 100 kilometres, Krause faded back to leave the Terrace trio to go for the gold. Then with . 35-K to go, Parr dropped off the pace, . Kantakis left Christensen alone when he ran into wheel spoke problems, While Mike won the race handily, Kantakis did some fast repair work and rode across the finish line in second place, only two minutes behind Christen- sen. Parr eventually came in third. _ On the 100-K side, Kitimat’s Mark Belsham and Jusi Jaakola finished one-two. . Soccer masters to play Burnaby Labour Day match A Terrace team of veteran players will compete in the first annual masters ‘over-40’ soccer tournament in Burnaby on Labour Day weekend. Twelve team members are signed up, including some from the U.S.A. They’ve scheduled 22 games in all, with each team guaranteed at least three games. To start, they’re split into three divisions of four teams each for round-robin action. The winners of each division, plus a wild card team advance to semi-finals. Terrace is bunched in with Delta Lions, Dutch Masters and Eugene, Oregon. The series, at Burnaby Lake sports complex, begins Saturday, Sept. 1 at 9:30 a.m. Sunday action begins at 10:45, with Monday’s semi’s siarting at 10:45. Future looks good for Hazelton Boom Town biathlon Hazelton’s first annual biathlon race Aug. 4 attracted nine individ- uals and eight teams of two. It was a three-section event with a run of five kilometres, a bike ride of 30- K, then another 5-K run. Times were not taken for this first-ever event, ‘Individually, Joe Galvin of Smithers placed first, followed by ‘Ray Wick of Smithers and organ- izer Dave Allwood of Hazelton. In teams, the Harrison brothers of Smithers came first, followed by the Randy Huisman team of Smithers, then the Tim Sullivan team of Hazelton.
