Follawing a recent meeting of the Baard of Directors of the newly farmed British Columbia Independent Logging Associations at the Inn of the North, the Chairman, Mr. William Schneider, has an- nounced the appointment of Mr. Colin Fraser as Executive Representative for the BCILA which represents independent logging contractors and log haulers in the province. Mr. Schneider says ihe ex- pertise in communications and public relations which’ Mr. Fraser brings to the BCILA will be invaluable in assisting, to. overcome pressing and im- mediate problems facing the forest industry al the. present time. “The new office which Mr. Fraser will be opening next week al Suite M7, 635 Humbeldt Street in Victoria,” sald the Chairman, “will facilitate conlacts -and exchanges with government ministerial level, in those departments directly and in- directly associated ‘with forestry, transportation and labour.” Mr. Schneider om- phasized that although the Execulive Representative position is a new one, jt is one which has been: contemplated for some lime as a recognized need in establishing closer relations with ihe government, the B.C. Forest Service and the officials, to ihe- media. "In a time of increase? sophistication of knowledge and lechniques,"" said —- Mr. Schneider, ‘': the member associalions comprising the BCILA haye become. in- creasingly aware af the necessity of being recognized and heard as the policy making groups representing those in- dependent logging operators -responsible for more than 90 percent of actual woods har- vesting, particularly in the Interior, We need the services of a professional communicator who can get our side of the story across quickly and’ accurately to- other organizalions and within owe own associations.” Mr. Fraser is. a native of Western Canada and has spent a number of years in the broadcasting industry, both in the private sector and with the Canadian Broadcasting Cor- poration. active in the business world and for nearly two years was the proprietor of the trans- continental trucking firm.
