I have done on-site inspections of the problem area, and have noted several contributing factors which would help to maintain this rodent populatione Rats, once established, tend to breed until they surpass the following limiting factors: 1) available food 2) available water 3) available Her To reduce the likelihood of rats ccoure aintaining themselves on or around your property, the following are some useful-habits to adopt: 1) Put garbage in metal or plastic cans that have securely fastened lids only; garbage bags present no barrier to rats, dogs, and catso 2) If you have pets, feed them only enough food so that they will consume it in a very short time; if not consumed, remove food from outside feeding bowls. 3) Animal droppings contain a large amount of undigested food which can be consumed by rodents; clean them up regularly. . 4) Wood and lumber piles should be stacked one foot off the ground and six inches away from vertical walls. 5) Stored vegetables and fruits should be kept off the ground and in a secure place not accessible to rats. 6) Never put vegetable peelings or kitchen wastes in compost or on garden without applying a composting material and covering with dirt. occe/2e
