Thank you for your letter of January 6, 1972
requesting further information on the proposed presentati.on
to Mr. Harry Mantel of the City of Nanaimo silver merit award.

On October 20, 1971 when a B.C. Ferry vessel
was unloading at the Departure Bay Terminal in Nanaimo a car
containing two elderly persons slipped off the ferry and sank.

As we understand it four persons dove into the
water and assisted in bringing the elderly couple to safety.
Mr. Harry Mantel, 3148 Stratford, Port Coquitlam was one of
these gentlemen,

We trust this information will be of assistance
to you, as it ig all the information we have been able to obtain
on the accident.

We appreciate very much your advice that it is your
intention to present this merit award on behalf of the City of
Nanaimo to Mr. Mantel,
