7 : : c Simpson, Alexander. and = daugher-in-law “Diana, as well as three grand- ‘children = Justin, Ryan and Jodi OBITUARY Alex will be missed — HERE ‘N THERE YVONNE MOEN MANY FRIENDS were saddened when Terrace architect Alexander Juergen Inselberg passed away Jan. 7, 1994 after surgery in St.. ‘Paul’s Hospilal in Vancouver. ‘A memorial service was held on Jan, 20, 1994 al St. Matthews Anglican Church in Terrace, of- ficlaied by the Reverend Dean Houghton with Jim Cain assist- ing. “Dave Parker and Jim Macintosh spoke on behalf of fellow mem- bers and friends of the Masonic Lodge and the Rotary Club. A eu- logy was read by son Alexander Inselberg, Music for the service was performed by Rusty Ljungh. - A reception at the Masonic Lodge followed the service, catered by the Ladies of the East- -ern Slar. Alexander Juergen Inselberg ---was born in Berlin bul spent mosi of his early life in Riga, Latvia. He met his wife Hildegard in . Stultgart, Germany, in 1945 and they married later that year. ‘Hildegard continued to work in ae publishing house while Alexander studied architecture ' from 1945 to 1951, ‘During those years his two chil- dren were born - his daughter Michelle and son Alexander, In 1955 they decided to migrate to. Canada, fearing that there might be another war in Europe. They artived in Wells, B.C. in May 1955. Hildegard’s sister and brother-in-law had moved there in 1953. Alexander worked in the Wells gold mine for approximately nine months. One of his bosses was concerned that he might damage his: hands and thus ruin his chances of working as an at- chitect in the future. Alexander took his advice and ‘moved. to Prince George, where he? qualified as an archilect in Canada, and where he lived from 1956 to 1963, ‘He then: opened an office in Prince Rupert in the Benson ‘Block on Third Avenue, becom- ing the first resident architect to open a permanent office in Prince Rupert, and the first architect in ‘the whole Northwest. ' He also opened an office in Ter- race on the 4600 block of Lakeise Avenue to serve the Kitimat and Smithers area. . He moved his family to Terrace in June of 1963. Over the years he designed schools, churches, and a wide range of commercial, industrial ‘and residential projects through- out (he Northwest. “Alexander’s office was above Gim’s restaurant on Lazelle Ave- nue until he moved to his present ‘location al 4728 Lazelle Avenue, ‘which also became his family home, ‘Every weck, for the past 31 years, he drove to his Prince Rupert office, ‘He joined the the Terrace ~Rotary Club in 1963, serving as president from 1970-71. “Tn 1989 he again served as the District Governor’s representa~ live, In the establishment of the ‘Skeena Valley Rotary Club. “Alexander was also a Shriner, and for seven yoars was chairman “responsible for the crippled chil- dren-in the Northwest.
