TERRACE — The final
film in the Reel World
series for spring was
Shown at the Terrace
Library on May 1.

‘*The Bay Boy’’
depicts a few weeks in
the life of a boy growing
to manhood in a small
Maritime town. in the
thirties. His hardwork-
ing parents, rebuilding
their lives after losing
everything in the Depres-
sion, are hard-working
religious people bringing
up the lad and his invalid
brother as best they can.

The boy, played by
Donald Sutherland’s

. son, is reaching out ten-

tatively to his first rela-
tionships with girls, suf-
fers the death of his
dearly loved brother,

_and witnesses a murder.

Torn by fear, the desire
to protect the young girl
he fancies, and dread of
the consequences of
disclosure he conceals
the identity of the
murderer until cir-
cumstances give him no
choice. Strong perfor-
mances by young
Sutherland and Liv
Ullmann, as his mother,
highlight a gently percep-
tive film. _
