THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM TOs Te. Chong, P. Ends» October 24, 1988 city Engineer FROM: Gord Voncina, Operations Manager SUBJECT: Request for Additional Budget Funds - Water Maintenance Account 62122 I have recently reviewed the operating budgets of each of the divisions within the Operations Department. The Water Maintenance Budget, line item 62122 will be overspent at year end if the demand for repairs to existing water services continues. The sum total of the budget funds made available in 1988 for water maintenance is $149,300. Year to date the funds expended are $144,179. It is estimated that an additional sum of $34,000 will be required to provide this service to year end. It is therefore recommended that additional funds be made available for water maintenance in the amount of $34,000. In 1988 several factors have contributed to the additional expenditures for water maintenance. They are listed as follows: 1. Requests from the public to repair leaking or broken services has increased 26% over last year. ° An increasing number of service leaks have been discovered Within the roadway adjacent to the road shoulder. These repairs are substantially more expensive than those leaks located on boulevara areas. Each water service repair undertaken in the area of the service box is replaced with an LR13 due to the age and poor condition of the existing boxes. Ail service restorations are replaced with sod to minimize the effect of excavating in front of the homeowner's property. Respectfully submitted, don Voncina, Operations Manager 4
