V3C 2A8 Dear Mayor and Council: After Dark Bus Steps i iB 6 + Wr, ian wh 4914 © Dist trees, Langley, British Gaiumeta, Canada VIA 3Z8 Township Council, at its meating on February 10th, passed the following motion: That the Township request that B.C. Transit initiate an "After Dark Policy” whereby a passenger can request "after sunset" he or she be allowad off the bus at any point along the route that would minimize the walking distance between the point of leaving the bus and his/her ultimate destination. At the present time the bus driver can only stop at a designated bus stop. Not infrequently, tha passenger must walk back two or three blocks or walk forward two or three blocks from the bus stop. This policy change would negate that walk on what could weil be a dark and deserted street. It goes without saying that in making this "unscheduled stop” the safe operation of the bus and the safety of the passenger in leaving the bus shail be maintained at all times. Transit to locate people claser to their destination during darkness will help alleviate potential or possible crimes. Council has asked that other Council's in the Lower Mainland endorse the resolution and also request B.C. Transit to initlate the After Dark. Bus Stop Policy. Yours truly, Rod Edwards Municipal Clerk
